Waste Generation Data Waste
generation data provides an estimate of how much waste a business
typically produces by
converting information on volume of waste to weight measured in
pounds. These data are drawn from the
Solid Waste Management Master
Plan Waste Composition Study Report, which was prepared for
Miami-Dade Department of Solid Waste Management by an independent
consulting firm, CH2M Hill, in August of 1993.
This study includes a
separate analysis of waste composition of 111 commercial samples by
generator category, for 19 commercial waste generator categories.
Estimates of waste generation rates expressed in cubic yards per
square foot of a building area were converted into rates expressed in
pounds, based on information collected by waste haulers, solid waste
directors, and manufactures. The
study accounted for seasonality by drawing waste samples at varying
periods during the year, and then averaging results to derive annual
waste estimates. Although the CIWMB 1999
Statewide Waste Characterization Study also contained information that
could be used to develop waste generation rates, variances between the
two datasets, most likely resulting from differences in location
factors, made it is more reasonable to use the factors established by
Miami-Dade. |
